[Update: Idjut Boys, Amorphous Androgynous, Peter Broderick, Jarvis Cocker, Beach House and more have joined proceedings for this year’s Green Man. Full line-up can be found here]

Over the past few years, The Green Man has quietly established itself as one of the UK’s best festivals and the most important thing to hit Wales since sheep; a fact reflected in the heavyweight line-up assembled for the 2009 edition, which takes place on August 21-23 in Glanusk Park, Wales.

Animal Collective be headlining proceedings – and what better place to hear their swirling, kaleidoscopic psyche-pop than in the jaw-droppingly verdant surroundings of Glanusk Park? Playing in support of the year’s most acclaimed album, Merriweather Post Pavilion, you just know that AC will rule this festival.

Not that there ain’t competition: the other big acts booked include perennially enthralling alt-country superstars Wilco, who’ll be previewing songs from their eagerly awaited new album, and hermit-turned-bestselling-solo-artist Bon Iver. Roky Erikson, the famously visionary (read "bonkers") frontman of the acid-fried 13th Floor Elevators, is the requisite living legend – he’ll be channelling the spirit of ’66 for a rare live performance against the backdrop of the Black Mountains.

The join a still-expanding array of performers which already includes Four Tet, Grizzly Bear, Dirty Three, Vetiver, Rodriguez, Andy Bird, Joe Gideon & The Shark, The Phantom Band, Unicorn Kid, Beth Jeans Houghton, The Leisure Society, Errors, Wooden Shjips, British Sea Power, She Keeps Bees, Its A Buffalo, Pivot, Megson, Golden Animals, 6 Day Riot, No Thee No Ess, Sound Carriers and Martin Carr.
