On September 26, Portishead‘s Geoff Barrow will take over Bristol’s Colston Hall, putting on a "mini festival" with "lots of amazing noise and interesting things to stare at". Which makes it sound a bit like one of them Victorian things what have the bearded ladies and coloured dwarves, but really it’s got bands and visual projections, which is much more PC.
Titled the Invada Invasion, it will take over each of the venue’s three performances spaces. Headlining will be a one-off collaboration between UK post-metal supergroup Crippled Black Phoenix and Bristol string section The Emerald Ensemble, with arrangements by Ben Salisbury and Elizabeth Purnell. This will presumably be very, very grandiose. In support are Rosie Red Rash, Fuzz Against Junk, Gonga, Thought Forms, Joe Volk, plus some folk we’ve actually heard of in the form of Team Brick, Malakai, Fuck Buttons, Zu and und Zun Zun Egui – plus a DJ set from The Coral.
In addition to the music there’ll be visual projections for the main hall acts by AV artist John Minton, and a specially commissioned exhibition presented by Frined & Co, the Bristol-based underground art gallery and creative platform founded by Barrow and Tom Friend. It will feature the work of Mr Jago, Bryoglyphics, China Mike, Acerone, Mudwig, Asbestos, Paris, Eco, 45RPM and more.
No, us neither. But at least it’s got a cool poster:
