Hip-hop supervillain MF Doom, who returned this year with an often excellent new solo album Born Like This, will release a rarities compilation this Autumn on Gold Dust, a New York label that have put out albums by Poison Pen, Soul Assassins and Cyprus Hill’s DJ Muggs in the past.
The only information on Gold Dust’s microsite is the title, Unexpected Guests, sleeve [above] and loose release date: October 2009. But a press release and ‘tentative tracklisting’ has appeared on various corners of the interweb, indicating that the album will be released on October 27, and will be a collection of Doom’s best guest appearances on other artists’ records, including collaborations with Wu Tang’s Masta Killah, GZA, Ghostface and Inspectah Deck, Talib Kweli, J Dilla and Jake One.
The album will also apparently feature a never heard before live version of ‘I Hear Voices’, from Doom’s ’99 classic Operation Doomsday. But bear in mind that there’s always a healthy amount of speculation around Doom releases (and Doom himself, for that matter), so don’t be surprised if that tracklisting changes.
