The Black Dog’s Dust Science label re-launches this month with a free four-track EP featuring tracks from Grievous Angel, Carl Taylor, The Bass Soldier and the ‘Dog themselves.

Dust Science was founded in 2005 and has released many records by The Black Dog as well as local heroes like Richard H. Kirk (Cabaret Voltaire, Sweet Exorcist) and some from further afield – Claude Young, Anthony Shakir, Shawn Rudiman and Dan Curtin. All four contributors to the new EP, entitled In The North, are based in Sheffield.

The Black Dog begin proceedings with ‘Tesco’, a track that doffs its cap to the Steel City’s bleep techno roots, while another Dust Science stalwart, Carl Taylor, delivers ‘Walk On By’, a slice of Detroit-inspired electronic house. Proving that they’re open to new things, Dust Science welcome to the fold a certain Grievous Angel – who’ll likely be familiar to FACT readers for his dubstep-garage-funky machinations – and his techno-infused dubstep bomb ‘Show Love’. The EP closes with The Bass Soldier’s brilliantly titled ‘You Live With Your Mum’, which the label describe, accurately enough, as "gutter 2step house".

The In The North EP is completely free to download, so check it out for yourself, and look out for further interesting projects from Dust Science HQ.
