There will be a "double helping" of Sónar in 2010.
Next year’s edition of the electronic music and art festival will take place simultaneously in both its long-time home of Barcelona and in A Coruña, over the period June 17-19. The line-up will to a large extent be shared by the two cities.
A press release explains: "As part of the Xacobeo Jubilee Year, Sónar travels along the Way of Saint James, and will take place simultaneously in A Coruña and Barcelona. As a result, there will be a double helping of Sónar, the annual Barcelona festival and this one-off event, which will be called Sónar Galicia.
"Like the Sónar Festival in Barcelona, Sónar Galicia will have a Sónar by Day with a music line-up, and a multimedia and audiovisual area with a special emphasis on Galician artists. The Sónar by Night stages will feature the latest leading lights in electronica."
The visual identity of Sónar 2010 is established in a full-length film entitled FInisterre, which looks at "the introspective journey undertaken by two hosts who during Sónar 2009 decided to travel along the Way of Saint James to the end of the world. Once they arrive, they begin a fleeting new period on earth." You can watch a preview of the film here.
This year’s festival featured artists as diverse as Richie Hawtin, Little Boots, Marcel Dettmann, Grace Jones, Omar Souleyman and Rustie.
