UK hip-hop perennial Roots Manuva will be hosting a series of intimate sessions at The Book Club in East London.
Roots, real name Rodney Smith, will be joined by his Banana Klan collective for each edition of Go Bananas, which launches on Friday 22 January. A range of DJs and live performances are promised, as well as “magic, comedy, palm reading, speaker’s corner and live media installations”; for the opening night, Smith has secured the services of Dawn Penn (she of ‘No, No, No’ fame), Connie Bell and longtime collaborator Ricky Ranking. Entry is £7.
Subsequent instalments of Go Bananas are scheduled for April 23, July 23 and October 22. They built up to the release of a new dub compilation from Roots due for release through Big Dada towards the end of 2010.
