Mr Fingers – Stars

Mr Fingers‘ seminal Slam Dance EP has been remastered and reissued on vinyl.

The EP, the work of Larry Heard, was originally released in 1987, and is one of the enduring masterpieces of house music. Its four exquisitely produced tracks – ‘Slam Dance’, ‘Stars’, ‘Waterfall’ and ‘For So Long’ – sound fresher than ever, ‘Stars’ in particular still driving us wild after all these years.

The repress, titled Mr Fingers EP, is an official Alleviated Records product, manufactured and distributed by the good people at Rotterdam’s Clone Records. They have this to say about the record:

“It’s about time that people become aware of the talents of Larry Heard (aka Mr Fingers). One could easily say that he is the Miles Davis of house music. On this remastered release we have ‘Stars’, ‘Waterfalls’, ‘Slam Dance’ and ‘For So Long’. Four tracks with unique alienating machine rhythms, intense basslines and overwhelming beauty in an abstract way that was never heard before, until this release came out.”

Quite. Original copies of the 1987 Alleviated release go for between £30 and £70 on Discogs, so this new, affordably priced edition – which you can find more info on here – is very welcome indeed. Well done Clone for making it happen.
