Hyp!Hyp!Hyp! will take to Brixton Road’s club Plan B on May 14, with a headline set by Rinse FM boss Geeneus.
Geeneus pretty much is UK street music. A former member of Pay as You Go Cartel, legendary for their role in the rougher side of garage’s transformation into grime, he’s made some of the last decade’s most seminal riddims in both grime and funky, and his role as Rinse FM boss and thus one of the key members of the Ammunition/FWD/Rinse umbrella means that the cultivation of these scenes, plus dubstep and more, owes much to him.
He’s also spent a good part of his professional life dealing with some of the most unprofessional people in London, he’s had to deal with larger stations constantly nicking his artists – we basically have the utmost respect for him.
Bristol’s Guido plays, with his much-anticipated debut album for hometown label Punch Drunk, Anidea due out in May, backed by 2step heartbreaker Deadboy. Also on the bill are the excellent Deep Teknologi, soon to inaugurate a new label ran out of Phonica, LuckyMe’s The Blessings, Rinse’s Marco Del Horno and the Hyponik residents.
Necessary details: May 14, tickets £8 advance, £10 on the door, open late.
