MTV report that Gucci Mane will be released from jail in May.

The Atlanta rapper, who’s reached a peak of critical acclaim in the last couple of years, was sentenced to a year’s time on November 12, 2009, for violating probation.

He was serving time in Fulton County Jail, and according to Hot 97 DJ Angie Martinez, will be released on May 12 (so that’s six months-ish), in time to perform at this annual Summer Jam concert in June. Gucci said the following to Billboard.com.

“Unfortunately I’ve been to jail a couple times. Anytime I come in it’s difficult to make music, write songs. This time, I have a peace within me. I’ve been so excited to get out. I’ve written about 50 to 60 songs. With money and selling CDs, I can always do that. I believe I can make all the money I’ve missed the last six months. But I can’t regain the time with fans and family.”
