Today’s Daily Download is from one of our favourite new bands, the woefully named but musically wonderful Pigeons.

A trio numbering Wednesday Knudsen (now that’s a good name), Clark Griffin and Carter Thornton, Pigeons are set to release their debut LP proper, Si Faustine, through Olde English Spelling Bee (home to Ducktails, Julian Lynch et al) on June 28. Elegant and erudite, with wistful vocals courtesy of Knudsen, Pigeons’ music is an American take on the grand British indie-pop tradition defined by Young Marble Giants and Belle & Sebastian. But unlike so many similarly oriented new bands, Pigeons know how to avoid tweeness, and how to head into psychedelia territory without losing focus on melody or narrative.
