Not to fit people into canons where it’s not needed, but we’re right into the new wave of Californian producers operating in the filter-heavy space between Flying Lotus and chillwave.

Mostly, it must be said, Baths and Shlohmo [above]. So it’s convenient that the two come together on this track from Shlohmo’s sometimes sublime Camping EP, for FoF Music. Baths remixes Shlohmo’s ‘Post Atmosphere’, creating something with the MPC crunch of vintage Prefuse 73, the distant, ghostly vocals of Burial, and most importantly, that Flying Lotus-esque balance between eyes down head-nodding and eyes up star-gazing. Watch out for a feature on both these guys next month.
