Titled Sequence 1 and “inspired by the stripped back technical set-ups of yesteryear”, it finds the pair limiting themselves to a Roland 909, a Korg Kaos Pad and a Dave Smith Polyevolver, recording on the fly. It will be released on September 20.
In their own words, they “we wanted to inject some excitement, energy and randomness into this release, so decided to play the tracks live with Mike on the 909 and keys and Will on filters and effects. We had a broad idea of where we were going before we pressed record, and recorded a few takes of each track, then took the best moments from each. The big challenge was reining in the slightly chaotic recordings, but after some tweaking we found a balance between old school rawness and modern production values.”
Scuba provides the B-side, with a remix of ‘Sequence 1’; Saul and Monday will be returning the favour on a future Hotflush release in September. In addition to this, both of them are working on solo albums. Saul’s is due for a Spring 2011 release, and will feature collaborations for Joe Dukie (Fat Freddy’s Drop), Paul ‘Tikiman’ St. Hilaire, Charlene Soraia and Detachments among others. Monday’s will see him write and release a new track for free every week on his website for 10 weeks, before releasing the lot.
