This last week at FACT HQ, we’ve been mostly listening to North, the long-awaited debut album by Darkstar.
Due out on Hyperdub this October 18, it sees the pair behind melancholy computer anthems like ‘Out of Touch’ and ‘Aidy’s Girl is a Computer’ expand to a trio for an album that takes in modern classical, spacious indie and more, bringing to mind the likes of Radiohead, the xx and Air. It’s very, very good – you can read the whole scoop here.
Yesterday, Hyperdub revealed the artwork for the record, a red-coated shot of a factory, presumably from the North of England. That’s it, above. It’s by Will Bankhead, who is, among other things, in-house designer for Honest Jon’s.
Hyperdub label boss Kode9 recently interviewed James Young from Darkstar about North; you can read the transcript here.
