Cults – ‘Go Outside’

Cults, the New York-based duo who have already been touted as The Next Big Thing by various factions of the media and the music industry, have signed to Columbia.

The band have released only one physical single to date, the ‘Go Outside’ 7″ on Forest Family Records, with a couple of other tracks finding their way online; listening to their twinkling, uncomplicated and mercilessly catchy brand of jangle-pop (you can stream ‘Go Outside’ above), it’s not hard to see why they’ve been attracting the interest of the majors. The band are now on the books at Columbia in both the US and UK, the latter via new sub/stooge-label In The Name Of, and are apparently working on their debut album with producer Shane Stoneback with a mind to a Spring 2011 release. In the past Stoneback has contributed his engineering skills to Vampire Weekend’s self-titled debut LP and its follow-up, Contra, as well as M.I.A.’s recent /\/\ /\ Y /\. [via Pitchfork]
