Rufus Wainwright is set to continue his successful incursion into the opera world with a takeover of London’s Royal Opera House for “five nights of velvet, glamour and guilt”.
House Of Rufus commences on July 18 and represents the first time that a solo artist has been given a residency at the ROH. Wainwright will perform two concerts of Judy Garland material (Rufus Does Judy!) backed up by the Britten Sinfonia, and two separate shows with his sister Martha Wainwright and father Loudon Wainwright III. The week draws to a close on July 31 with a concert version of Wainwright’s own acclaimed opera Prima Donna, with singer Janis Kelly.
