Poly Styrene, former singer with femme-punk stars X-Ray Spex, passed away yesterday.

Aged just 53, Styrene – real name Marian Joan Elliot-Said – was diagnosed with cancer of the spine and breast in February, and this morning news of her death was confirmed via her official Twitter feed: “We can confirm that the beautiful Poly Styrene, who has been a true fighter, won her battle on Monday evening to go to higher places.”
