4 Men With Beards, a label responsible for high-quality reissues of classic albums by Nico, John Martyn and The Durutti Column among others, has turned its attentions to Serge Gainsbourg’s sixth studio album.

Originally released in 1964, Gainsbourg Percussions is now billed by 4MWB as “the first ethno pop album ever”. Certainly it’s a strange record, recorded with French jazzer Alain Gouraguer, and featuring punchy female backing vocals and, of course, a ton of percussion. A must for fans of the Frenchman.
