SEE, WE ASSEMBLE is a new exhibition by Mark Leckey at London’s Serpentine Gallery.

It sees the Turner Prize-winning artist exploring “the potential of the human imagination to appropriate and to animate a concept, an object or an environment”. Included in the display is his classic 1999 work Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore, which charts the history of underground dance culture in the UK, along with recent performance piece GreenScreenRefrigeratorAction (2010), and the ongoing BigBoxStatueAction sequence (2003-11). For the latter, Leckey places one of his Sound Systems (pictured) ‘in conversation’ with a modernist sculpture, by ‘serenading’ the sculpture with a sound piece created from sampled music and archive material.

The exhibition opens this Thursday, 19 May and runs til June 26. Leckey will present four live evening performances of BigBoxStatueAction, “designed specifically to suit the unique acoustic qualities of the Serpentine Gallery.” Booking for these sessions is essential; details here.
