‘Rollercoasters Of The Heart’ is Bass Clef’s new 12″ single, out now on Punch Drunk, and it’s really bloody good.

A plaintive but propulsive rave number, all ’89-style piano vamps, wheedling synths and echo-drenched snares, mixing bleary-eyed romanticism and dancefloor bombast in a manner reminiscent of Lone’s productions, but somehow with a little more weight to it.

Clef, real name Ralph Cumbers, has been steadfast in his resistance of easy classification over the years, but one thing is certain: his music always packs a wallop. For ‘Rollercoasters’, a long overdue link-up with his former hometown of Bristol, he’s commissioned the above animated video, and it’s a suitably explosive visual accompaniment to what will doubtless rank among the top tunes of the year.
