Emerging Oxford producer Graphics has been turning heads since back in 2010.
We last heard from him when he wheeled out the I Need You EP in January, a collection that surfed the future garage zeitgeist, but pulled a few neat flips and tricks of its own. The Line Of Best Fit has pointed the way to a fresh track from the young pup, available now for free download.
In many respects, ‘I Don’t Wanna’ is very much part of the crowd. The cut-up R’n’B vocal, the syncopated drum patterning, the sparkling organ sound – nothing here is going to elicit the shock of the new. Graphics has, however, always shown a talent for incorporating snatches of found sound into his productions, and there are touches that elevate ‘I Don’t Wanna’ above being merely serviceable. The opening peal of police sirens are a neat touch. There’s also a breakdown about four minutes in where Graphics’ percussion textures – weird rubbery twangs, industrial clangs and rattles – are allowed to shine.
Graphics has an EP on the way, due soon on LYWat Records. Another cut, ‘Dogs Yawn’, was posted up on Graphics’ Soundcloud yesterday.
