Sainsbury's launch music download service

Already buy your groceries at Sainsbury’s? Well you’ll now be able to add some mp3s to your basket as well.

The UK supermarket has today announced a music download service, “as part of a wider initiative to increase the retailer’s online entertainment offering.”

It’ll be hosted on Sainsbury’s Entertainment, and at this point hosts over 2.3 million downloadable mp3s. Tracks start at 89p, chart albums at £6.99 and ‘Deal of the Week’ albums at £4.99. On top of this, new customers can download their first track for free. It’s a bit like Betfair, really.

A press release sent out this morning claims that Sainsbury’s will also “guarantee lowest prices its on pre-order items. Therefore, when an mp is purchased and the price drops ahead of or on the release date, Sainsbury’s will refund the difference, so customers can be safe in the knowledge they are getting the best deal when purchasing any music.”
