Time was when it felt like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy would never disappear from view: what with all the pre-release pomp, critical hyperbole and rolling backlash, the record was just about unavoidable.
Of course, as with all capital-B big records, those copies of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy have now started to accrue dust. Eighteen months after the album’s release, Kanye’s thrown out a new video to remind us how good his magnum opus still is.
The new monochromatic video for album kiss-off ‘Lost In The World’ is directed by eminent fashion director Ruth Hogben. As fashionistas go, Hogben’s as big as they come: she’s helmed clips for Louis Vuitton, Selfridges and Mac. Kanye, face obscured, pulls the usual fraught poses amidst gusts of smoke. Female dancers shake, twist and gape at the sky. All in all, it’s big-budget, straight-faced stuff (that said, the bit at 1:27 reminded us of the The Crimson Permanent Assurance)
