Update: There’s no longer any doubt about it – Leaders Of The New School will be performing at the Brooklyn Hip Hop festival. AllHipHop confirm that the group will be appearing at the event, although there’s still no news on which members will make it to the stage (although, with that crucial photo in mind, surely Charlie Brown and Dinco D are both likely candidates). The other guests aren’t exactly small fry either: Q-Tip, Raekwon and Rakim are among the ‘Friends’ Busta will be bringing along for the ride.

Leaders Of The New School, the group that gave the world Busta Rhymes, look like they may be on the cusp of reuniting.

The Long Island crew – Charlie Brown, Dinco D, Cut Monitor Milo and inevitable song-stealer Busta Rhymes – bounded onto the scene in the early 1990s. They made their name as a member of the Native Tongues collective, associating with the likes of De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest. 1991 debut A Future Without A Past was a jolly throwback affair, but one enlivened by Busta’s freewheeling presence and some smart production work.

The inferior T.I.M.E (The Inner Mind’s Eye) LP arrived in 1993, and the group subsequently broke up in fairly infamous fashion, with Charlie Brown claiming “I don’t wanna be in the group no more” live on an edition of Yo! MTV Raps. Apart from a cameo appearance on Busta’s 1996 album The Coming, LONS have been silent ever since.

On Wednesday, Busta tweeted a recent picture of him with Charlie Brown and Dinco D, accompanied by the message “#LEADERS stay tuned…”. HipHopDX report that the rapper is slated to headline the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival this weekend, a show billed as ‘Busta Rhymes & Friends’. Surveying the clues, it seems a safe bet that the Leaders will be convening; more to follow in the aftermath of the event.
