Questlove to publish memoirs, Mo' Meta Blues

The Roots’ renaissance man readies “a punch-drunk memoir.”

Questlove will soon be able to add “author” to a list of talents that already includes drummer, producer, DJ, bandleader, and college professor.

On June 18, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson will release Mo’ Meta Blues via the Hackette Book Group. The memoir was co-written with Ben Greenman, whose previous ghost-writing efforts include autobiographies by Gene Simmons and Simon Cowell.

Press materials promise that Mo’ Meta Blues finds Questlove telling “his own story while tackling some of the lates, the greats, the fakes, the philosophers, the heavyweights, and the true originals of the music world. He digs deep into the album cuts of his life, as well as pivotal moments in black art, hip hop, and culture.”

With a title that referencing Spike Lee’s Mo’ Betta Blues, it “isn’t just a memoir. It’s a dialogue about the nature of memoir. It’s a book that questions what a book like Mo’ Meta Blues really is.”
