Warp have taken FlyLo-approved beat freak Jeremiah Jae under their wing.
Rolling with the Young Black Preachers crew, the rapper/producer has been cranking out cosmic hip-hop since the turn of the last decade: 2010’s DXNCE was an unpredictable set of scorched earth hip-hip, and ears perked up at his Dilla tribute Eating Donuts and other Refined Foods and the gastronomically-inspired Lunch Special mixtape project.
He’s best known, however, for his affiliation with Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint, who issued the Rappayamatantra EP and his debut proper, Raw Money Raps; the latter didn’t quite transcend its influences, but pointed towards a commendably frazzled (and, at 22, highly promising) mind. So far this year, Jae’s released the RawHyde mixtape with brother-in-arms Oliver The 2nd, issued a slew of new material under the auspices of his Black Jungle Radio project, and found the time to knock out an impressive collection of scrambled Beastie Boys edits.
Congratulations, it appears are now in order: Jae has followed associate and mentor Flying Lotus onto august UK label Warp Records. No details have emerged as yet about any forthcoming releases, but the label have attached their name to last week’s Bad Jokes mixtape; head over to our Mixtape Round-Up to see what we made of it.
