Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes soundtrack gets vinyl and cassette reissue

Don Peake score available on wax and tape.

Following their release of the soundtrack to Wes Craven’s 1972 shocker Last House on the Left, soundtrack label One Way Static have announced a vinyl and cassette reissue of the original music for Craven’s 1977 chiller The Hills Have Eyes.

The score was written by composer, musician and record producer Don Peake, who began his career in the early ’60s as the lead guitarist for the Everly Brothers and later worked as an arranger for the likes of Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye and The Monkees.

Peake’s soundtrack will be released in three special editions on January 14 – the black vinyl edition is limited to 1400 copies and comes in a tip-on gatefold jacket, while the coloured vinyl comes in “amber/glow in the dark” or “clear/solid amber splatter” variations, with 300 copies of each. The cassette version is limited to 300 copies and contains bonus material like radio spots and foreign trailers, and the first 100 orders get the limited hand numbered ‘Body Bag Edition’.

All versions come with extensive liner notes from Don Peake and a selection of the film’s cast and crew. European customers can order on One Way Static, while North Americans should head to Light in the Attic. Gruesome cover art is pictured above; extensive tracklist below.

It’s been a bumper year for horror soundtracks, with OST specialists Death Waltz reissuing John Carpenter’s soundtracks to Assault on Precinct 13 and They Live, while label boss Spencer Hickman recently delivered a special Halloween FACT mix. [via Exclaim]
