The follow-up to The Disintegration Loops finally arrives on wax.

Brooklyn-based record label Temporary Residence has announced the first ever vinyl edition of William Basinski’s Melancholia.

Originally released a year after his now-classic The Disintegration Loops, Melancholia is regarded as one of the NYC composer’s finest works and was created through a similar method, as he revisited short tape loops recorded in the early ’80s and found that their deterioration resulted in unique and otherworldly sounds.

Remastered from the original recordings, the album comes packaged in a gatefold jacket featuring new artwork and also comes with an MP3 download. It’s due out on April 29 and is available to pre-order now.

Read FACT’s mammoth interview with Basinski, and catch him at St John’s Church in Hackney next week where he’s rekindling the spirit of his famous Arcadia performance space. [via Prefix]
