Myriam Bleau’s Soft Revolvers is a musical performance composed for four spinning tops.

The unorthodox instruments were built by the artist using clear acrylic. Each LED-embedded spinning top is algorithmically linked to an ‘instrument’ in an electronic composition. Motion data collected by sensors inside the tops alters these musical algorithms, allowing the artist to manipulate the resulting sound by changing the movement of the tops.

Speaking about her creation, Bleau says “With their large circular spinning bodies and their role as music playing devices, the tops strongly evoke turntables and DJ culture, hip hop and dance music. LEDs placed inside the tops illuminate the body of the objects in a precise counterpoint to the music, creating stunning spinning halos.”
