Janet Jackson’s first album since 2008 will be released this Fall through BMG and her own newly formed label Rhythm Nation.

An announcement from BMG on Jackson’s website describes a “worldwide partnership” with Rhythm Nation: “The partnership with BMG makes Janet Jackson the biggest worldwide superstar yet to quit the traditional record label system for a so-called artist services deal, designed to put artists in the driving seat,” states BMG. “Unlike a traditional record deal, under an artist services deal the artist retains ownership of their recordings and full oversight of all costs and revenues.”

Update: you can now hear a small snippet of music from the album:

Following the release of her own album, Jackson “plans to offer a home to both new and established recording artists” on Rhythm Nation, the statement adds.

The pop icon announced her return in a video message last month, promising new music and a new world tour – find out the six songs that prove Janet did it best, and did it first. [via Billboard]
