Adele’s 25 already one of the fastest selling albums of all time

By , Nov 23 2015

Adele’s 25 has only been out for three days and it’s already breaking records.

The popular singer’s third album rocketed to the top of the charts around the world, and has already shifted a gargantuan 2.3 million copies in the US, putting it on track to be the fastest-selling album ever.

Nielsen Music began tracking sales data in 1991, and since then N Sync’s No Strings Attached was the only album to break 2 million in one week. That album ended up selling 2.4 million in a week, a record Adele’s 25 is predicted to topple before the day’s end.

Over on the other side of the Atlantic, 25 is making history too, shifting a very respectable 538,000 copies in the UK alone. Only two albums have ever broken 500,000 in a week: Oasis’s Be Here Now and Take That’s Progress.

Seems putting together an album of crowd-pleasing snoozers and not making it available on the world’s litany of streaming services really does pay off. I think we all know what we’re getting for Christmas. [via The Guardian]
