German artist Wolfgang Tillmans has revealed that the witch house overlords are working on a new album.

If you thought witch house was dead and buried, think again. The chopped and screwed-influenced, occult-inspired microgenre could be heading for a rebirth.

Photographer and musician Wolfgang Tillmans has revealed that influential witch house trio Salem are currently working on a new, as-yet-untitled album – the band’s first full-length LP since 2010’s King Night and the follow-up to 2011’s I’m Still in the Night EP.

Writing on Instagram at the weekend, Tillmans explains that Salem’s John Holland and Jack Donoghue –listed as one of the six additional producers on Kanye West’s 2013 track ‘Black Skinhead’ – have remixed his ‘Make It Up As You Go Along’ song, which is the first piece of music they have released in over five years, and that they are also working on their own album.

The remix – which will appear on Tillmans’ forthcoming Device Control EP, out September 16 – was made earlier this month while Salem were living in Louisiana. Tillmans says: “John and Jack were working on a new album there and are completing it in Los Angeles, where they live now. Salem are back. Full Louisiana pictures when album comes out. Label tbc.” No further details are known as yet.

Remind yourself of Salem’s cover of ‘Better Off Alone’ by Alice Deejay.
