FACT Classic Mix: The xx

Rewind to 2009 for an embryonic mix.

According to the latest transmission from The xx’s recording bunker, the UK trio are currently hard at work on their third album and listening to a lot of great tunes for inspiration.

But while we wait for the follow-up to Coexist (seriously guys, it’s been four years now), we’ve dug into our archives to find what we reckon is the band’s very first internet mix type thing, posted on FACT in 2009 – just before their debut album kickstarted their ascent to indie domination.

At the time we were smitten with The xx’s “torch-lit pop full of space and natural rhythm,” but we couldn’t have predicted the heady heights they’d climb over the next six years, from Mercury Prize win to chart-topping second album to Jamie xx’s solo success.

But everyone has to start somewhere, and here we are: The xx’s debut FACT mix (Jamie xx got his own slot later) featuring early edits and bootlegs plus tracks from Zomby, Skream and Four Tet & Burial.

Stream and download below and check out other classic FACT mixes from Four Tet, Autechre and more.
