At a rally today in Tampa, FL, Donald Trump criticized last night’s Get Out the Vote concert for Hillary Clinton because of the profanity in Jay Z’s music.

“I actually like Jay Z, but you know the language last night,” he told the crowd. “I was just thinking maybe I should just try it, should I use that language for one event? Can you imagine if I said that? So he used every word in the book. I won’t even use the initials, because I’ll get in trouble, they’ll get me in trouble.”

Trump is, no doubt, referring to the “trouble” he got into when a tape of him speaking to ex-Access Hollywood host Billy Bush leaked earlier this autumn. In the video, Trump describes sexually aggressive behavior – “I just kiss them, I don’t even wait,” among other things. It was also reported back in October that there is footage of Trump using a specific racial epithet on the set of The Apprentice.

In defending himself, he said that Clinton’s husband Bill “said far worse to [Trump] on the golf course.” Bill Clinton and Jay Z are, of course, both not running for president, so this “bad language” is kind of irrelevant.

What Trump also fails to understand is that it’s not about the profanity, it’s about the attitude behind the words. If he had used anatomically correct language, there still would have been outrage because of the threatening nature of the word “grab”. No one cared when President Obama called Kanye West a “jackass” for his 2009 VMAs stunt on Taylor Swift because West was, indeed, being a jackass.
