FACT mix 578: Baba Stiltz

The Trilogy Tapes’ latest signing gets spaced out and deliciously weird.

We first dug Baba Stiltz in his unlikely role as double agent between DJ Haus’s Unknown to the Unknown universe and Yung Lean’s Sad Boys, releasing dippy house bangers like ‘Cherry’ while moonlighting as a red-eyed cloud rap producer with Yung Sherman. Since his first appearance on Studio Barnhus in 2013, he’s also become a regular fixture on the reliably different Swedish dance label, with his 2014 debut full-length Total showcasing his intuitive, bordeless style to full effect. He’s even put out two albums of folk-pop as The Betlehem Beard Corporation. Clearly, genre is no limit for Yung Stiltz.

To celebrate his first appearance on The Trilogy Tapes with the three-track Keep It Lit EP, Stiltz steps up to the controls for a FACT mix full of left turns. Spanning whacked-out Rammellzee chops, romantic moods from Robag Wruhme and a dust-covered Tiga dub, the spaced-out mix was recorded at Studio Barnhus “then run through all sorts of digital nonsense for the robotic feel,” says Stiltz.

“The music is a mix of what I’ve been working on in studio and also what I’ve been playing out. Please expect hits old and new and also some out of the order feelings,” he adds.

Baba will be taking his records to Sweden, Austria and Czech Republic before the end of the year, returning to the UK on February 3 to play Patterns in Brighton.
