You may not be surprised by number one.

Love them or loathe them, festive songs are as essential to the holiday period as your co-worker’s ‘zany’ Rudolph sweater or Toy Story 3. From big reggae flavours to Magic FM-approved power ballads, everyone has their personal favourite but now the 10 most downloaded Christmas songs of all-time have been revealed using Nielsen data.

Hard-wired into any office party soundtrack are Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’, Bobby Helms’ ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ and Jose Feliciano’s ‘Feliz Navidad’, all of which feature in the bottom half of the countdown, with 751,000 downloads, 780,000 and 808,000 downloads respectively.

The top five are an era-spanning mix of tunes, from Justin Bieber’s acoustic croon fest ‘Mistletoe’ at number four with 1.1 million downloads, to a track off the Frozen soundtrack at number two with 1.6 million downloads. Home Alone favourite ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ sits nicely at number five with a million downloads.

And the most downloaded Christmas song of all-time is as predictably comforting as your dad’s homemade trifle – Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’, with 3.2 million downloads to date. See the full list and hear Mariah in action below.
