Remember Pono?

Neil Young has revealed plans for a Pono streaming counterpart based off his high-quality music player of the same name.

Pono has already experienced many ups and downs. After an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign, the player flopped and is best remembered for its awkward, pocket-unfriendly Toblerone shape. As of last year, Young admitted the company was struggling due to “lack of resources”.

Now, Young tells Rolling Stone, the company is ready to pivot into a streaming service that will still offer high-quality sound.

“We’re pushing towards getting a presence in phones,” Young says. And while the iPhone chip is not compatible with the quality Pono promises, Young explains he’s been working with an unnamed Singapore-based company on ways to “maintain our quality level when we go to streaming”.

And so, the legend of Pono continues.
