She was “surprised” to learn of the new Dirty Projectors album.

Amber Coffman has discussed her split from Dirty Projectors and her break-up with former bandmate Dave Longstreth.

In February, Longstreth released a new self-titled album as Dirty Projectors, which he described as a break-up record, without the involvement of Coffman.

In a statement, shared ahead of the release of her debut solo album City of No Reply, Coffman said she only learned of Longstreth’s plans in September.

“It was never my intention or wish to leave the band or end my friendship with Dave. It was a surprise to me to learn last September about his album plans, the content, timing, use of the band name, etc… I consider it a loss to no longer be involved with Dirty Projectors, but ultimately walking away was the only healthy choice for me,” she writes.

She confirmed that her six-year relationship with Longstreth ended in 2012 but a rekindled friendship led to them collaborate on her new album in 2015. She continues: “All went considerably well, but things took an unfortunate downturn around the completion of my record, at which time we stopped speaking.”

Coffman is yet to announce a release date for City of No Reply but has release a single ‘All To Myself’, listen below.
