From blog house to blues rock with one of the most recognizable voices of the ‘00s.

Former Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto has announced her debut solo album, five years after the group disbanded.

Fake Sugar will be released on June 19 (find the tracklist below), and will feature lead single ‘Fire’, which premiered on Mistajam’s Radio 1 show last night. A brooding, bluesy rocker, Ditto builds slow-burning tension for a minute before letting loose with her signature holler. “I tried to be very uncool about it, and I think I succeeded in a good way,” Ditto told Mistajam.

Between 2001 and 2012, Gossip released six studio albums that elided blues, disco and pop; irresistible hits such as 2006’s ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’ dominated dancefloors, and the Soulwax Nite Version of that single made No. 2 in our list of the top 30 blog house tracks of the era. Ditto’s solo career has hitherto consisted of one-off singles and guest spots, aside from an underrated self-titled 2011 EP produced by Simian Mobile Disco.
